**New Delhi, October 26** – AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has been summoned to appear before a local court on January 7th. The summons stem from a petition filed by lawyer Virendra Gupta alleging that Owaisi violated the Constitution by raising a pro-Palestine slogan during his oath-taking ceremony in Parliament on June 25th.
Gupta’s initial petition, filed July 12th, was initially rejected but a subsequent revision petition was accepted by District Judge Sudhir. The judge subsequently issued the summons to Owaisi.
Gupta argues that Owaisi’s slogan, which was later expunged from the parliamentary record by the chairman, was unconstitutional. Owaisi, however, defended his actions at the time, stating that there was nothing wrong with his statement, which included the phrases “Jai Bheem, Jai Meem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine.” The court will now hear the case to determine whether Owaisi’s actions constitute a constitutional violation.
