**IDUKKI, KERALA – December 24, 2024** – The hill station of Munnar in Idukki district recorded its lowest temperature of the season on Tuesday, with the Chenduvarai area experiencing a frigid 0°C. According to data from the United Planters Association of South India, Munnar town registered 2°C, while Silent Valley, Devikulam, Letchmi, and Seven Malai recorded 2°C, 3°C, 4°C, and 7°C respectively.
Climatologist Gopakumar Cholayil predicts that sub-zero temperatures are likely in the coming days. He noted that this year’s winter in Munnar is returning to normal patterns, following a period of less intense cold. While the plummeting temperatures are expected to boost tourism, with hotels reporting full bookings, the cold snap is also causing concern for the agricultural sector. Frost is anticipated to damage tea plantations. The influx of tourists is expected to continue until at least the second week of January.
