**Bharuch, Gujarat –** A 35-year-old man, Shailesh Rathod, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 70-year-old woman in Bharuch district, Gujarat. This marks the second time Rathod has assaulted the victim; he was previously arrested for raping her approximately 18 months ago and was out on bail at the time of the recent attacks.
The attacks occurred on December 15th and 22nd at the victim’s hut. Rathod reportedly threatened the woman to prevent her from reporting the crimes. The victim eventually filed a police report at the Amod police station, prompting a swift investigation involving the crime branch, Special Operations Group, and local police.
This arrest comes on the heels of another recent sexual assault case in the same district, involving the rape and subsequent death of an 11-year-old girl. The accused in that case has also been apprehended. The series of incidents has raised serious concerns about women’s safety in the region.
