Tue Dec 24 01:08:28 UTC 2024: ## Shami Ruled Out of Remaining Border-Gavaskar Tests Due to Knee Injury
**Mumbai, Dec 23:** Mohammed Shami will miss the final two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia due to a knee injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced today. The fast bowler, who recently recovered from a heel injury that sidelined him for almost a year, suffered a minor swelling in his left knee due to increased workload during recent domestic matches.
While Shami impressed with seven wickets in the Ranji Trophy and nine in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the BCCI medical team deemed his knee requires further rehabilitation before he can handle the demands of Test cricket. The injury, described as a consequence of his increased bowling load after a long layoff, is considered minor but requires more time for controlled rehabilitation.
The decision comes after captain Rohit Sharma deflected questions about Shami’s fitness, deferring to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for an official update. The BCCI confirmed that Shami’s recovery from his heel surgery is complete, but the focus now shifts to his knee, which will continue to be monitored by the medical team. His participation in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy will depend on his progress. The BCCI expressed confidence in Shami’s full recovery in the near future. He will continue his rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.
