Tue Dec 24 13:23:23 UTC 2024: ## IRCTC Halts Compensation for Private Train Delays

**New Delhi, December 24, 2024** – The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has ended its compensation scheme for delays on private trains, according to a Right to Information (RTI) response. The scheme, which offered passengers ₹100 for delays of 60-120 minutes and ₹250 for delays of 120-240 minutes, was discontinued on February 15, 2024.

Between October 4, 2019, and February 16, 2024, IRCTC paid out ₹26 lakh in compensation, with ₹15.65 lakh disbursed in the 2023-24 fiscal year alone. The corporation cited confidentiality as the reason for not disclosing the rationale behind the decision.

The scheme, initially implemented to boost ridership on the two Tejas Express trains (Delhi-Lucknow and Ahmedabad-Mumbai) operated by IRCTC, was reportedly a marketing initiative. IRCTC clarified that full refunds were provided for cancellations, and food and water were offered during delays.
