**New Delhi** – A prominent spiritual leader, Jagadguru Rambhadracharaya, has sharply criticized RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent concerns over rising temple-mosque disputes. Rambhadracharaya insists Hindus should reclaim what he terms their “historic properties,” stating, “What is our historic property should definitely be ours. We should take it, no matter how.” He dismissed Bhagwat’s authority on the matter, asserting that the RSS chief is not the leader of the Hindu religion and that religious scholars, not Bhagwat, are responsible for Hinduism. The Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti (AKSS), a seers’ organization, echoed this sentiment, arguing that religious matters should be decided by religious leaders, not the RSS.
Bhagwat’s comments followed the discovery of an ancient temple and stepwell in Sambhal, sparking renewed tensions. He expressed concern over the resurgence of such disputes, urging India to demonstrate its capacity for peaceful co-existence. Rambhadracharaya, however, dismissed Bhagwat’s concerns as “unfortunate,” pointing to the RSS chief’s Z+ security detail.
Meanwhile, the recent discoveries in Sambhal continue to generate interest. An ancient well, dating back an unknown number of years, containing clean water, has been unearthed at the Kshem Nath Tirth pilgrimage site. Additionally, a 150-year-old stepwell spanning 400 square meters has been uncovered in the Laxman Ganj area. These discoveries follow the recent reopening of the Bhasma Shankar Temple, closed for over 46 years. These events highlight the ongoing sensitivities surrounding religious sites and historical properties in India.
