**NEW DELHI** – A heated exchange erupted between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Monday, sparked by a clipped video of AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari shared a nine-second clip on X (formerly Twitter) appearing to show Kejriwal suggesting the Constitution’s author was intoxicated. This occurred amidst an ongoing controversy surrounding Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on B.R. Ambedkar.
Tiwari, a three-time MP, claimed the video revealed Kejriwal’s “true colours.” However, AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who has a previous defamation case against Tiwari, countered by releasing the full 19-second video. Sisodia asserted the clip was taken out of context, showing Kejriwal referring to the Congress party’s internal constitution, not the Indian Constitution. He accused Tiwari of acting like a “cheap troll” and demanded he show more respect for his position.
Tiwari responded, calling for decorum in the debate and questioning Kejriwal’s interpretation of the statement. He challenged whether there was a distinction between the Indian and Congress constitutions. Multiple X users have faced legal action for sharing the clipped video.
The spat follows recent controversy over Shah’s comments on Ambedkar during the Winter Session of Parliament. Shah’s remarks, which were perceived by the opposition as an insult to the Dalit icon, have prompted calls for his resignation and apology. Shah maintains his words were misinterpreted. The AAP, Congress, and other opposition parties have strongly condemned Shah’s statement.
