Mon Dec 23 13:33:53 UTC 2024: ## Gaza Hospital Under Fire: Director Appeals for International Intervention

**Beit Lahiya, Gaza Strip –** The director of Kamal Adwan hospital in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, has accused Israeli forces of repeatedly targeting the medical facility, urging the international community to intervene. Hossam Abu Safiyeh reported that Israeli drones dropped bombs on the hospital’s courtyards and roof on Monday, causing extensive damage to the intensive care unit, maternity ward, and specialized surgery department. He stated that the shelling, which also destroyed nearby buildings, continued throughout the night and that a generator was also targeted. While an Israeli military spokesperson denied targeting the hospital, Safiyeh insisted that the attacks were deliberate, aiming to kill and displace those within. Kamal Adwan, one of only two functioning hospitals in northern Gaza, is currently treating 91 patients. The ongoing attacks come amidst Israel’s intense military campaign in northern Gaza, which has resulted in a dire humanitarian crisis and widespread destruction. The UN and human rights groups have repeatedly called for the protection of hospitals and the delivery of essential medical aid to the region. This incident follows previous reports of attacks on the hospital and a Sunday order (denied by the Israeli military) to evacuate the facility. The conflict, which began on October 7, 2024, after a Hamas attack on Israel, has resulted in a devastating loss of life on both sides.
