**CHENNAI, December 24, 2024** – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate the centenary celebrations of veteran Communist Party of India (CPI) leader R. Nallakannu on December 29th at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai. The event will include the release of a book of poems dedicated to Nallakannu, written by 100 poets.
Veteran Tamil nationalist leader Pazha Nedumaran will preside over the function, which is expected to draw a diverse range of attendees. Mr. Nedumaran highlighted Nallakannu’s unique standing, noting that while many prominent leaders have not lived to see their centenary, Nallakannu’s long life allows for this significant celebration. He emphasized Nallakannu’s broad appeal, extending beyond politics to encompass social activists, educationists, scientists, and artists.
A star-studded guest list includes CPI general secretary D. Raja, social activist Medha Patkar, former Madras High Court Judge Justice K. Chandru, and several prominent figures from Tamil Nadu’s political and cultural spheres. Mr. Nallakannu himself will deliver an acceptance speech. The Dharmalingam Educational Charitable Trust is organizing the event.
