Mon Dec 23 18:28:06 UTC 2024: ## Shami Ruled Out of Remaining Border-Gavaskar Trophy Tests
**Melbourne, Australia:** Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami will not participate in the remaining two Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test matches against Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Monday.
The BCCI released a statement detailing Shami’s fitness update. While he has fully recovered from heel surgery performed in February, a minor knee inflammation has developed due to the increased bowling workload following his return to competitive cricket. The BCCI medical team, based at the National Cricket Academy, assessed that further time is needed for his knee to adjust to the demands of Test match bowling.
Shami, who had recently played Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches, underwent rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. Although he bowled 43 overs in a Ranji Trophy match and played nine Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches, the increased activity has resulted in the inflammation. The BCCI stated that this inflammation is considered expected given the time off and subsequent increased workload.
The decision to exclude him from the remaining Tests was made after a medical evaluation concluded that his knee requires more time to adapt to the stresses of high-level bowling. Shami will continue his recovery at the Centre of Excellence and work on building his bowling workload. His participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy will depend on his knee’s progress. The series is currently tied at 1-1, with the fourth Test beginning in Melbourne on Thursday. Shami has played 64 Tests, 101 ODIs, and 23 T20 Internationals for India.
