**Kalaburagi, Karnataka, December 23, 2024** – A 20-year-old man, Kishan Rathod, has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment and fined ₹47,000 by the Kalaburagi District and Sessions Court (POCSO Act Special) for the rape of a minor girl. The incident occurred three years ago.
According to police reports, Rathod stalked the victim, promising marriage before abducting her to Hyderabad in Telangana on December 13, 2021, where he sexually assaulted her for a week. Following a complaint filed by the victim’s father at the Jewargi Police Station, Rathod was arrested and charged.
Judge Yamunappa Bammanagi found Rathod guilty under Sections 363, 366 (a), and 376 (2) (n) of the Indian Penal Code for kidnapping and raping a minor. The court further invoked Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, in handing down the sentence. The lengthy prison term and substantial fine reflect the severity of the crime and the court’s commitment to protecting children.
