Mon Dec 23 15:41:44 UTC 2024: ## Sivaganga Farmers Celebrate Success with New Solar Dryer Unit

**Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, December 23, 2024** – A new solar dryer unit, funded by Syngenta through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, was inaugurated in Illayankudi, Sivaganga district, boosting the local farming community. The ₹14 lakh facility will significantly improve the quality and shelf life of farmers’ produce, leading to higher market prices.

The inauguration comes on the heels of a remarkable success story for the Illayankudi Farmers’ Producers Organisation (FPO). The FPO, encompassing 1,000 farmers across three blocks, reported a phenomenal increase in revenue, from ₹12.03 lakh in 2021-22 to a projected ₹4.55 crore by December 20, 2024. This success, achieved partly through the use of the e-NAM online trading platform, allowed the FPO to distribute a ₹200 dividend to each of its members.

Sivaganga Collector Asha Ajith lauded the FPO’s achievement and highlighted the Tamil Nadu government’s ongoing efforts to support the agricultural sector. She also praised Syngenta and the Hand-in-Hand India NGO for their contributions, including the earlier desilting of a tank in Nalukottai and the construction of a drying yard. The Collector noted that a storage unit is also under construction for the farmers. The FPO’s success serves as a model for other agricultural communities in the region. The event was attended by representatives from Syngenta, Hand-in-Hand India, and local agricultural officials.
