Sat Dec 21 19:40:30 UTC 2024: ## Local Graphic Artist Arrested for Gold Chain Snatching

**Chennai, December 22, 2024** – Selaiyur police have arrested a 32-year-old digital graphic artist, S. Shanmuga Anandan, for snatching a gold chain from a 60-year-old woman. The incident occurred on December 14th on Maruthi Nagar Main Road, Madambakkam, when Anandan, riding a motorcycle and wearing a helmet, snatched 7.5 sovereigns of gold from R. Sowrnam.

Following a complaint, police reviewed CCTV footage and identified Anandan, a B.Sc. (Computer Science) graduate employed in Vadapalani. He confessed to the crime, stating he was heavily in debt due to loans from apps and credit cards. Police also revealed that Anandan had been inspired by movies and YouTube videos, and had previously stolen a two-wheeler from Ambattur, which he used in the gold chain snatching. He earns approximately Rs. 32,000 per month. The stolen two-wheeler was also recovered.
