Sat Dec 21 20:01:25 UTC 2024: ## Former US Diplomat Exposes Allegiance to Israel Amidst Gaza Crisis
**Washington D.C.** – A former US State Department official has accused the Biden administration of prioritizing Israel’s interests over its own, even at the expense of Palestinian lives. Mike Casey, who served as deputy political counsellor at the US Office of Palestinian Affairs in Jerusalem, resigned in July citing the US government’s unwavering support for Israel during its military campaign in Gaza.
Casey, in an interview with Al Jazeera, described his experience as “frankly embarrassing,” stating he had “never seen anything like it” in his diplomatic career. He alleges the US consistently acquiesces to Israeli demands, supporting actions even when aware of their wrongfulness. His resignation follows others from US officials similarly angered by President Biden’s staunch support for Israel.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in over 45,000 Palestinian deaths, prompting accusations of war crimes and genocide from UN experts and human rights groups. While the US claims to be working towards a ceasefire and the release of hostages, it has refused to leverage its substantial military aid to Israel – at least $3.8 billion annually, with an additional $17.9 billion provided since the conflict began, according to Brown University researchers – as leverage to end the fighting. This inaction has drawn fierce criticism, leading to President Biden being labeled “Genocide Joe” by some advocates.
Casey contends that the US government is fully aware of the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza but continues to support Israeli actions, even disregarding detailed reports provided by officials like himself. He attributes this policy to a lack of concern for Palestinian suffering and an unwavering acceptance of the Israeli narrative, regardless of its veracity. Casey concluded that the US is effectively pursuing Israel’s interests at the expense of its own. The State Department has yet to respond to Al Jazeera’s request for comment.
