Sat Dec 21 19:38:32 UTC 2024: ## Chennai Man Dies by Suicide After Losing Mother’s Cancer Treatment Funds to Online Gambling

**CHENNAI, December 22, 2024** – A 28-year-old man was found dead in his home in Little Mount, Saidapet, Chennai, in what police have ruled a suicide. Devaraj, a catering course graduate, reportedly took his own life after losing ₹30,000 intended for his cancer-stricken mother’s treatment to online gambling.

According to police sources, Devaraj lived with his mother following the death of his father. He became addicted to online gambling and, despite his mother’s illness, used the money set aside for her medical care. Following a confrontation with his mother over the lost funds, he took his own life.

Kotturpuram Police recovered Devaraj’s body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Authorities are urging individuals struggling with suicidal thoughts to seek help through the State’s health helpline (104), Tele-MANAS (14416), or Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline (044-24640050).
