**Bengaluru, December 21, 2024** – Karnataka’s luxury tourist train, the Golden Chariot, was relaunched today at Yesvantpur Railway Station after a six-year hiatus. Tourism Minister H.K. Patil officially flagged off the train, which was originally launched in 2008 by then-President Pratibha Patil.
The relaunch follows revised operational arrangements between the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) and IRCTC under the Bharat Gaurav Train policy, addressing previous operational challenges such as high running costs and low occupancy.
The Golden Chariot offers several curated journeys showcasing Karnataka’s culture and heritage, including “Jewel of the South,” “Pride of Karnataka,” and “Glimpse of Karnataka,” along with customized chartered trips. The train boasts 44 cabins with en-suite bathrooms, two gourmet restaurants, a lounge bar, a spa, and a fitness center.
Minister Patil highlighted the train’s significance in showcasing Karnataka’s rich history, culture, and natural beauty, promising a unique luxury travel experience. An IRCTC representative expressed confidence in attracting both domestic and international tourists.
Prices vary depending on the itinerary; the “Jewels of the South” tour (December 21-26) costs ₹4.07 lakh per ticket, while “Pride of Karnataka” (February 1-6) is priced at ₹2.71 lakh. Chartered trips under “Sojourn of the South” are available from December 29 to February 12.
