Sun Dec 22 08:19:57 UTC 2024: ## Tollywood Star Allu Arjun Blamed for Stampede Death, Faces Backlash
**Hyderabad, India –** Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directly accused Tollywood superstar Allu Arjun of causing a stampede at a Hyderabad theatre during the premiere of his film “Pushpa-2: The Rule,” resulting in the death of a 35-year-old woman and the hospitalization of her nine-year-old son. Reddy stated in the state assembly that police had denied permission for Allu Arjun’s visit to Sandhya Theatre due to capacity concerns, yet the actor proceeded, triggering the tragedy.
Reddy further alleged that Allu Arjun, despite being informed of the woman’s death, showed no remorse and instead reportedly commented that the film’s success was now assured. The CM criticized the actor’s actions, specifically pointing to an unsanctioned roadshow from his car, which reportedly incited the crowd surge at the theatre. He also noted that Allu Arjun allegedly ignored warnings from police officials to leave before eventually complying only after a threat of arrest. A case has been registered against Allu Arjun and the theatre management.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi echoed the criticism, questioning Allu Arjun’s lack of empathy and suggesting the actor was sending a message that the government oppresses film stars. Owaisi contrasted his own large political rallies, emphasizing his commitment to crowd safety and the absence of similar incidents.
The Telangana government has announced a ₹25 lakh (approximately $300,000 USD) compensation to the family of the deceased woman, Revathi, and will cover all medical expenses for her injured son. Furthermore, the government has stated it will no longer grant permission for film premieres or benefit shows and will halt any further increases in theatre ticket prices. State cinematography minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy personally delivered the compensation cheque to the victim’s family. The incident has sparked significant public outrage and a debate on celebrity responsibility and crowd control at public events.
