Sun Dec 22 02:04:06 UTC 2024: ## 9/11-Style Drone Attack Rocks Kazan, Russia

**Moscow, December 21, 2024** – A series of drone attacks on the Russian city of Kazan, approximately 720 kilometers east of Moscow, has been reported, causing significant damage to several buildings and prompting the closure of two airports. The attacks, which occurred Saturday morning, bear a resemblance to the September 11th attacks in their scale and impact, according to multiple news sources.

Reuters news agency attributes the attack to eight Ukrainian drones, six of which struck residential buildings. While videos circulating on social media show multiple drones impacting high-rise structures, no casualties have yet been reported. At least three high-rise buildings were reportedly hit. Following the attack, Kazan International Airport and at least one other airport in the region were temporarily shut down.

This incident follows a string of escalating attacks between Russia and Ukraine. On Friday, Ukraine launched an attack on Kursk, Russia, resulting in six deaths. Russia retaliated with an attack on Kyiv, killing one person and damaging buildings that housed several diplomatic missions, according to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The Kazan attack comes four months after a similar incident in Saratov, Russia, where a Ukrainian drone strike targeted a 38-story residential building near a strategic bomber military base. Furthermore, the assassination of Russia’s nuclear chief, Igor Kirillov, four days prior, has been linked to Ukraine by Reuters, citing Ukrainian officials.

Despite escalating tensions, Russian President Vladimir Putin recently stated his willingness to negotiate an end to the war with former US President Donald Trump. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has also indicated his intention to discuss the conflict with Putin. The situation remains volatile, with the international community anxiously watching the unfolding events.
