Sun Dec 22 07:52:44 UTC 2024: ## Former Cricketer Robin Uthappa Denies Wrongdoing in EPFO Case, Claims Arrest Warrant Issued in Error

**Bengaluru, December 21** – Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has issued a statement denying any wrongdoing in an EPF (Employee Provident Fund) fraud case that led to an arrest warrant being issued against him. Uthappa clarified his involvement with three companies – Strawberry Lenceria Private Limited, Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Private Limited, and Berries Fashion House – stating that he was appointed a director in 2018-19 only after providing loans to these firms.

Uthappa emphasized that he had no operational role in the companies’ day-to-day functioning due to his commitments as a cricketer, television personality, and commentator. He asserted that he did not have the time or expertise to manage their operations and that this is standard practice for other companies he has invested in.

He further explained that after the companies failed to repay the loans, he initiated legal action, which is currently underway. Uthappa also stated that he resigned from his director positions several years ago. His legal team responded to notices from EPFO officials demanding outstanding payments, providing documentation confirming his lack of involvement in the companies’ affairs.

Despite this, the EPFO proceeded with the warrant. Uthappa’s legal counsel is working to resolve the matter, and he has appealed to the media to verify information before reporting. Police visited an address in Bengaluru’s Ulsoor where Uthappa previously resided, but he is currently based in Dubai.
