**Chennai, [Date]:** Director Vetrimaaran has revealed details about the extensive post-production process behind his recently released film, ‘Viduthalai.’ Speaking to RS Infotainment YouTube channel, he confirmed that he made an 8-minute cut to the film right before its theatrical release. This decision, he explained, was made to maintain the film’s narrative flow and avoid ambiguity, adding that time constraints prevented earlier adjustments. Vetrimaaran also noted that a longer cut could have risked audience fatigue.
The director also shed light on the existence of multiple versions of ‘Viduthalai’, including a four-hour version for the first part and a three-hour version for the second, totaling eight hours. These extended versions were prepared for international film festivals. A different version was also created for the OTT release, with an additional 11 minutes added to part one and a full hour to part two. The theatrical release is a more concise version curated for Indian audiences.
The voiceover narration, Vetrimaaran explained, was initially intended to be by Suri for part one (as the story’s focus is on his character) and Vijay Sethupathi for part two. Ultimately, Suri provided the voiceover for both parts.
Vijay Sethupathi, in a separate comment, expressed a desire to release some of the cut scenes as promotional material. The film, a politically charged narrative, portrays the story of communist comrades fighting for social justice and national liberation, with Vijay Sethupathi in a revolutionary role and Suri as a humane policeman.
