Sat Dec 21 08:45:18 UTC 2024: ## Flight Attendant Falls From Plane at East Midlands Airport, Triggering Investigation

**East Midlands Airport, UK –** A TUI Airways flight attendant suffered serious injuries after falling from a plane at East Midlands Airport on December 16th. The incident occurred in the evening as the aircraft was preparing for departure. The flight attendant reportedly opened the aircraft door, believing the steps to be in place, but the stairs had been removed, causing her to fall onto the tarmac.

Witnesses reported the woman suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham by East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS). EMAS confirmed responding to a medical emergency at 4:31 pm and transporting one patient to the hospital. EMAS Operations Director Simon Hinchley wished the flight attendant a speedy recovery and offered assistance with the investigation.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has launched a full investigation into the incident. The AAIB statement confirmed inspectors have visited the airport to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the fall. It is understood that ground handling agents, acting on behalf of the airline, are typically responsible for attaching the aircraft stairs.

The investigation will focus on determining why the stairs were not in place when the flight attendant opened the door.
