Fri Dec 20 17:04:02 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Police Crime Branch to Investigate Rahul Gandhi Assault Allegations

**New Delhi** – The Delhi Police Crime Branch will investigate an FIR filed against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of injuring two BJP MPs during a clash at the Parliament complex on Thursday. The incident followed protests over alleged insults to B.R. Ambedkar by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput sustained injuries during a scuffle between opposition and ruling party lawmakers. Sarangi, who is 69, alleges that Gandhi pushed Rajput, causing him to fall onto Sarangi. Both MPs are hospitalized.

Gandhi faces charges under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to voluntarily causing hurt and endangering life. A subsequent complaint by BJP MPs, including Anurag Thakur, went as far as accusing Gandhi of attempted murder.

The Congress party dismissed the FIR as a “badge of honour” and accused the BJP of employing diversionary tactics. They countered with allegations of their own, claiming BJP MPs assaulted Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and physically manhandled Gandhi. A Congress delegation has also filed a police complaint and requested an inquiry from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

The case, initially handled by local police, has been transferred to the Crime Branch for further investigation. The incident has escalated political tensions and sparked a war of words between the ruling NDA and the opposition parties.
