**Zagreb, Croatia –** A 7-year-old girl was killed and six others, including a teacher and five students, were injured in a knife attack at a primary school in Zagreb, Croatia, on Friday. Police apprehended a young male attacker, reported to be 19 years old, following the 9:50 a.m. incident at Precko Elementary School.
Video footage shows children fleeing the school as a medical helicopter landed on the grounds. Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic expressed his shock and stated that authorities are investigating the incident. Health Minister Irena Hristic confirmed the attacker is over 18. State HRT television reported the attacker entered a classroom and immediately began attacking the children.
While school attacks are uncommon in Croatia, this incident follows a similar tragedy in neighboring Serbia last May where a teenager fatally shot nine students and a security guard. The injured children were transported to various hospitals in Zagreb. The investigation into the motive behind the attack is ongoing.
