Sat Dec 21 08:41:52 UTC 2024: ## Google Cuts 10% of Top Management Roles in Efficiency Drive
**New Delhi –** Google has slashed 10% of its top management positions, impacting roles at the managerial, director, and vice president levels, CEO Sundar Pichai announced in an all-hands meeting Wednesday. The move is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to improve efficiency and streamline operations, a strategy initiated in September 2022 with a goal of boosting efficiency by 20%.
While some affected managers have been transitioned into non-management roles, others have been eliminated entirely. This latest round of cuts follows a larger layoff of approximately 12,000 employees in January 2023.
Pichai also addressed the company’s evolving culture, stating that it’s “time to update what Googleyness means for today’s Google.” This comes as Google faces increased competition in the AI sector, particularly from companies like OpenAI. Despite this pressure, Google continues to develop innovative AI technologies, including a video generator reportedly outperforming OpenAI’s and the Gemini model series, which emphasizes advanced reasoning capabilities.
