**New Delhi, [Date]** – The Indian Defence Ministry today announced a significant boost to the army’s firepower with a ₹7,628.70 crore contract awarded to Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the procurement of 100 K9 Vajra-T self-propelled artillery guns. These advanced 155 mm/52 calibre guns, procured under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category, will be primarily deployed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The K9 Vajra-T boasts cutting-edge technology, offering long-range, high-accuracy lethal firing capabilities, even in sub-zero temperatures at high altitudes. The ministry highlighted the gun’s cross-country mobility and its pivotal role in enhancing the army’s overall operational readiness and strike capability.
This procurement is expected to catalyze the modernization of the Indian Army’s artillery and significantly improve its firepower across diverse terrains. Furthermore, the project is projected to generate over nine lakh man-days of employment over four years, fostering participation from Indian industries, including MSMEs, and aligning with the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) and ‘Make-in-India’ initiatives.
