**Jaipur, Rajasthan –** A massive fire caused by a collision between a gas tanker and multiple vehicles on the Jaipur-Ajmer Highway on Friday, December 20, 2024, resulted in a tragic death toll of 14, according to DCP West Jaipur, Amit Kumar. The accident, which occurred near a petrol pump in the Bhankrota area, involved a truck carrying chemicals and an LPG tanker.

Initial reports from SMS Medical College Principal Dr. Deepak Maheshwari indicated 13 fatalities. The final death toll was confirmed later. Over 28 people were admitted to SMS Hospital, with over 60% suffering severe burns, and six requiring ventilators. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Sushil Kumar Bhati described the scene as “horrific,” with numerous vehicles engulfed in flames.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences via X (formerly Twitter), offering ₹2 lakh to the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured. Congress leader Sachin Pilot visited victims at SMS Hospital, demanding a thorough investigation into the accident’s causes, including road construction practices and traffic regulations. He emphasized the need to examine whether safety standards are being met given the increasing number of road accidents. The investigation will focus on the reasons behind the accident and the ongoing construction work at the accident site.
