Sat Dec 21 05:49:36 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Police Crime Branch Takes Over Investigation into Parliament Scuffle Involving Rahul Gandhi
**New Delhi** – The Delhi Police Crime Branch has taken over the investigation into a physical altercation on Parliament premises involving Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and BJP MPs. The case, initially registered at the Parliament Street police station following a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the BJP, alleges that Gandhi and others caused grievous hurt and criminal intimidation to two BJP MPs.
The Interstate Cell of the Crime Branch will lead the investigation under ACP Ramesh Lamba, focusing on charges of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, criminal intimidation, and using criminal force. The investigation will also incorporate a counter-complaint filed by the Congress party, alleging assault against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge by BJP MPs.
The incident, which occurred during the concluding days of the winter session of Parliament, sparked a war of words between the two parties. The Congress alleges the BJP disrupted parliamentary proceedings and demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over controversial remarks. They also called for the release of CCTV footage of the scuffle. The BJP, in turn, accused Rahul Gandhi of spreading misinformation through a manipulated video clip of Amit Shah’s speech. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has filed a breach of privilege notice against Gandhi and Kharge.
Police are expected to seek permission to examine the Parliament premises as part of their investigation. The transfer of the case to the Crime Branch signals a heightened focus on this politically charged incident.
