BENGALURU, INDIA – December 21, 2024 – A warrant has been issued for the arrest of former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa in connection with a provident fund (PF) case. Uthappa, who played 59 international matches for India, is accused of failing to deposit approximately ₹23 lakh (approximately $280,000 USD) in PF contributions for employees of Centaurus Lifestyle Private Limited, a Bengaluru-based company where he serves as a director.

The PF Regional Commissioner issued notices to Uthappa after an investigation revealed that while PF contributions were deducted from employees’ salaries, they were not deposited into their respective PF accounts. Attempts to serve the notices at Uthappa’s residence in Pulakeshinagar on December 4th were unsuccessful as he was not present. Consequently, the commissioner directed local police to take appropriate action.

The arrest warrant, issued on an unspecified date but reported today, states that Uthappa must pay the outstanding dues by December 27th, or face arrest. Reports indicate that Uthappa is currently residing in Dubai with his family. The case continues to unfold, with the cricketer now facing legal repercussions related to his business dealings.
