Sat Dec 21 14:36:57 UTC 2024: ## Karnataka Deputy CM Accuses BJP of Distraction in Ravi-Hebbalkar Row

**Bengaluru, December 21, 2024** – Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar accused the BJP on Saturday of attempting to deflect attention from MLC C.T. Ravi’s alleged derogatory remarks against Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar. Shivakumar stated that the BJP’s claims of police mistreatment towards Ravi following his arrest in Belagavi are a cover-up for the offensive language used.

He emphasized that the core issue remains Ravi’s alleged use of inappropriate language, stating that he would condemn such behavior within his own party. Shivakumar criticized Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok for supporting Ravi, claiming his support makes him complicit.

While the High Court ordered Ravi’s release on Friday, and both Ravi and Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti deny the use of derogatory language, Shivakumar maintains that the matter is about principles and conscience. He deflected questions about police actions against Ravi, stating it is a police matter and that he is frequently held responsible for unrelated events.
