**Chennai, December 20, 2024** – Suburban train services on Chennai’s north section, heading towards Gummidipoondi, were disrupted for nearly two hours on Friday morning due to a snapped high-voltage power line.
The incident occurred around 7:50 a.m. between Ennore and Athipattu Pudhu Nagar railway stations. A high-voltage overhead wire snapped and fell near the tracks, prompting officials from the Korukkupet Government Railway Police to alert the Ennore station master. Both suburban and express trains were subsequently halted near Ennore station.
A senior official from the Southern Railway’s Chennai division confirmed the incident. Tangedco maintenance crews arrived on the scene and repaired the power line by 10 a.m., restoring train services. The disruption caused delays for approximately five suburban trains traveling to and from Gummidipoondi.
