Fri Dec 20 07:45:06 UTC 2024: ## Mangalore Authorities Implement Traffic Diversion Due to Bridge Repairs

**Mangalore, December 20, 2024** – To facilitate crucial resurfacing work on the old Netravati bridge on National Highway 66 near Mangaluru, traffic authorities have implemented a temporary traffic diversion. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) commenced repairs on December 20th, addressing significant damage including potholes and exposed steel rods that posed safety risks.

The repairs involve completely removing and replacing damaged concrete sections on the 800-meter bridge. To alleviate traffic congestion caused by single-lane traffic flow on the old bridge, the Mangaluru traffic police opened the median near Adam Kudru, allowing bi-directional traffic on the new Netravati bridge for light vehicles traveling from Kasargod towards Mangaluru. This diversion, overseen by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Najma Farooqi, aims to ease congestion, particularly during peak hours.

While acknowledging the temporary solution, ACP Farooqi urged the NHAI to expedite the repairs by deploying more personnel and equipment to minimize disruption. She also requested improved street lighting in the work zone and along the diversion route for safety reasons. The NHAI is expected to continue work around the clock to complete the resurfacing as quickly as possible.
