Fri Dec 20 15:01:12 UTC 2024: ## Coimbatore Gets 27 New Low-Floor Buses, Mahalir Vidiyal Scheme Expanded
**COIMBATORE, December 20, 2024** – The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Coimbatore) Ltd. launched 27 new ultra low-floor buses on Friday, aimed at improving accessibility for senior citizens and differently-abled individuals. The launch, presided over by Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar and Electricity Minister V. Senthil Balaji, also saw the expansion of the Mahalir Vidiyal Payanam scheme (free bus travel for women). Fifteen additional buses were added to various routes across the city.
The new low-floor buses will be used for city services. The Mahalir Vidiyal Payanam expansion includes four buses on the Gandhipuram (III/IIIA) route, two on the Gandhipuram-Somanur (90A) route, three on the Maruthamalai – Gandhipuram (70) route, and two buses each on the Somanur – Ukkadam (20A), SITRA – Perur (2), and Gandhipuram – Karanampettai (19B/19C) routes.
The event at Sulur Bus Stand also included the distribution of compassionate appointment orders to 32 dependents of deceased transport corporation employees. District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, Mayor R. Ranganayaki, and Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran were also present.
