**New Delhi** – A major political clash erupted in the Indian Parliament Thursday, leaving two BJP MPs injured and sparking accusations of assault and breach of privilege against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey alleges that Gandhi instigated the violence, claiming he saw Gandhi push and shove BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput during a heated exchange. Dubey filed a breach of privilege notice against Gandhi, accusing him of inciting the scuffle and exhibiting “an ugly face.” The BJP also filed a police complaint alleging assault, incitement, and attempted murder against Gandhi.
The confrontation stemmed from a controversial speech by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in which he reportedly discussed the treatment of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by Jawaharlal Nehru. The Congress party released a selectively edited video clip of Shah’s speech, which they claimed insulted Ambedkar, sparking outrage and protests from the opposition. Dubey’s breach of privilege notice further accuses Gandhi of deliberately sharing a misleading edited version of Shah’s speech on social media to incite public sentiment and harm the Parliament’s dignity. He demanded Gandhi’s suspension and a thorough investigation.
The Congress party counters these allegations, claiming the BJP orchestrated the violence to distract from Shah’s remarks on Ambedkar. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh stated the incident was a deliberate attempt to shift public attention. Rahul Gandhi himself alleges that BJP MPs pushed him and manhandled Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. The Congress has also filed a police complaint alleging misbehaviour by BJP MPs. The incident resulted in injuries to two BJP MPs, who are reportedly critically injured. The matter is expected to further escalate political tensions in the coming days.
