Fri Dec 20 10:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Pi Network Delays Open Network Launch to Q1 2025 to Include More Users

**San Francisco, CA – October 26, 2024** – Pi Network, the cryptocurrency project with over 18 million KYC’d users, has announced a revised timeline for its Open Network launch. Initially targeting 2024, the launch is now scheduled for the first quarter of 2025. This delay, according to co-founders Chengdiao Fan and Nicolas Kokkalis, is to ensure a more inclusive launch and greater network stability.

The decision comes despite significant progress. Over 8 million users have migrated to the Pi Network Mainnet, with recent upgrades processing nearly 200,000 migrations per day. However, the founders cited a substantial gap between the number of KYC’d users and those migrated to the Mainnet, falling short of the 10 million migration goal set as a condition for Open Network launch.

“While we initially aimed for a 2024 launch, we cannot leave millions of Pioneers out,” Fan and Kokkalis stated in a joint announcement. “This delay allows us to onboard significantly more users and build a stronger, more stable foundation for the Open Network.”

The extended timeframe will allow more time for users to complete KYC verification and migrate their Pi to the Mainnet. The team has implemented system upgrades to accelerate this process and has also extended the Grace Period deadline to January 31, 2025, giving users more time to secure their Pi.

The announcement also highlighted the development of over 80 Mainnet-ready applications, indicating a growing ecosystem poised for the Open Network launch. The Pi Network team assures users that external factors will not further delay the launch, and the specific launch date will be announced closer to Q1 2025. The focus remains on achieving a successful and inclusive transition to the Open Network, prioritizing long-term stability and sustainability.
