**KOCHI, KERALA** – Unni Mukundan’s latest action film, “Marco,” has stormed the box office, receiving overwhelmingly positive audience response after its opening day. The film, described as Malayalam cinema’s first “massive violence” movie, has garnered praise for its intense action sequences and Unni Mukundan’s powerful performance.
Early audience reactions on social media hailed “Marco” as a “high-voltage mass entertainer,” with some declaring it the most violent Indian film ever made. The film’s brutal action scenes, choreographed by prominent action director Kalaikkingon, are a key highlight. The two-hour, 25-minute movie also features a stellar supporting cast including Siddique, Jagadish, Anson Paul, Kabir Duhan Singh, Abhimanyu Thilakan, and Yukti Thareja, with several Bollywood actors in pivotal roles.
Released in five languages (Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada), “Marco” is a spin-off focusing on the villainous Marco Junior, a character previously introduced in Haneef Adeni’s “Mikhael.” The film’s success is evident in its impressive opening-day collection, estimated at 3.50 crores in Kerala alone, with occupancy rates nearing 80%. Extra screenings have already been scheduled to meet the high demand.
The film’s director, Haneef Adeni, and music composer, Ravi Basrur, have also received considerable acclaim for their contributions. The A-certificate given by the censor board reflects the film’s high violence content. Despite the graphic violence, early reviews suggest a compelling narrative alongside the intense action, marking a significant moment for Malayalam action cinema.
