Fri Dec 20 08:10:39 UTC 2024: ## Nationwide Congress Protest Demanding Amit Shah’s Resignation
**New Delhi** – The Congress party will stage nationwide protests on Thursday, demanding the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah following his controversial remarks about B.R. Ambedkar. Shah’s comments, made during a Rajya Sabha speech on Tuesday, sparked a major political firestorm, leading to the adjournment of both houses of Parliament on Wednesday.
Shah’s statement, in which he suggested that the Congress’ frequent mention of Ambedkar’s name was merely a political tactic and that they would be better served by focusing on God, was met with widespread condemnation from opposition parties. The Congress, along with the TMC, DMK, RJD, Left parties, and Shiv Sena (UBT), accused Shah of insulting the architect of the Indian Constitution.
Protests erupted across the country, including demonstrations outside the BJP headquarters in Delhi led by AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge called for Shah’s immediate dismissal, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should act if he holds any respect for Ambedkar.
Prime Minister Modi defended Shah, accusing the Congress of attempting to hide its own past misdeeds and alleged mistreatment of SC/ST communities. Shah himself held a press conference, rejecting the calls for his resignation and claiming the Congress would remain in opposition for the next 15 years regardless. The Congress’s planned nationwide protests are expected to take place at state and district headquarters.
