**Raigad, Maharashtra, India –** A tragic accident marred a wedding celebration in Raigad district, Maharashtra, on Friday. A private luxury bus carrying a wedding party overturned on the Tamhini Ghat section, resulting in five deaths and 27 injuries.
The bus, operated by Purple Travels, was transporting guests from Lohegaon in Pune to Birwadi village in Mahad for a marriage ceremony when the incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. Preliminary reports suggest the bus was speeding and the driver lost control while navigating a sharp curve. The bus subsequently overturned, trapping several passengers.
Among the deceased are three women – Sangita Dhananjay Jadhav, Vandana Jadhav, and Shilpa Pradeep Pawar – and two men, one of whom remains unidentified. The victims were all part of the Jadhav family’s wedding party.
The injured were rushed to Mangaon Rural Hospital and other nearby medical facilities. Local villagers and police assisted in the rescue operation, which involved extricating passengers from the wreckage. Survivors, many still in their wedding attire, were left distraught by the devastating turn of events.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident, focusing on allegations of speeding. The incident has cast a pall of sorrow over what was intended to be a joyous occasion.
