Thu Dec 19 17:57:54 UTC 2024: ## BJP Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Assault, Files Criminal Complaint

**New Delhi, December 19, 2024** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed a criminal complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of assaulting BJP MPs and disrupting Parliament proceedings. The complaint, filed at Sansad Marg police station, cites several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of attempted murder, causing hurt, and criminal intimidation.

The incident allegedly occurred during a protest by BJP MPs. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan claimed that Mr. Gandhi, despite security requests to use alternative routes, deliberately approached the protesting BJP MPs, resulting in injuries to MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput. Mr. Sarangi reportedly suffered a head injury and was hospitalized, while Mr. Rajput was unconscious at the time of the visit by BJP leaders to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. A BJP MP from Nagaland also reported feeling threatened by Mr. Gandhi’s behavior.

Mr. Chouhan described Mr. Gandhi’s actions as “hooliganism” and “unruly and shameful,” accusing the Congress party of undermining Indian democracy and the Constitution. He expressed disappointment that neither Mr. Gandhi nor Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had apologized for the incident. The BJP also criticized the Congress’s actions inside the Lok Sabha, alleging they disregarded parliamentary norms.

The BJP is demanding an apology from the Congress and has questioned the suitability of Mr. Gandhi as Leader of the Opposition. The Congress is yet to respond officially to the serious allegations. The incident has sparked a major political row, raising questions about the conduct of politicians within the Parliament complex.
