Thu Dec 19 13:23:13 UTC 2024: ## Parliament in Uproar: BJP MPs Injured in Clash, Accuse Rahul Gandhi of Assault
**New Delhi:** Chaos erupted in the Parliament complex on Thursday morning as a scuffle broke out between BJP and Congress MPs, resulting in injuries to two BJP lawmakers. The incident, stemming from ongoing protests over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on B.R. Ambedkar, left BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput hospitalized.
Sarangi, a Member of Parliament from Balasore, Odisha, alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pushed a fellow BJP MP, causing him to fall on top of Sarangi. Sarangi sustained a head injury that required stitches, while Rajput reportedly fainted and suffered from high blood pressure. Both were admitted to RML Hospital’s ICU.
Following the incident, BJP MPs Anurag Thakur and Bansuri Swaraj filed a police complaint against Rahul Gandhi. Conversely, Congress MPs Digvijay Singh, Rajiv Shukla, and Pramod Tiwari lodged a complaint with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge alleging that they were manhandled. Kharge himself claimed he suffered a knee injury in the melee.
Rahul Gandhi, when questioned by the media, countered the accusations, stating that BJP MPs had threatened and pushed him, preventing him from entering Parliament. He claimed he was trying to enter the Parliament building when BJP MPs blocked his way.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly condemned the incident, questioning Rahul Gandhi’s actions and referring to the Parliament as not a wrestling arena. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the injured MPs to inquire about their well-being.
The clash occurred amidst ongoing protests by both the INDIA bloc and BJP MPs over Shah’s controversial comments on Ambedkar. The protests led to disruptions in both houses of Parliament, which were adjourned. The incident marks a significant escalation in tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition. Police investigations are underway.
