Thu Dec 19 12:32:36 UTC 2024: ## Amit Shah Faces Backlash Over Ambedkar Remarks
**New Delhi:** Union Home Minister Amit Shah is facing widespread condemnation from opposition parties for his comments on B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. The controversy erupted after a speech Shah delivered in the Rajya Sabha, where he was responding to a discussion on the Constitution’s 75th anniversary.
While the exact wording is disputed, opposition parties allege that Shah’s remarks were disrespectful to Ambedkar. The Congress released a video clip appearing to show Shah sarcastically mentioning the frequent invocation of Ambedkar’s name, suggesting it was being used for political gain. Shah later denied any intention to disrespect Ambedkar and accused the Congress of twisting his words.
Several opposition leaders have demanded Shah’s resignation and apology. Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav called for the entire BJP to apologize, stating that the party is against Ambedkar’s principles and does not want the country to be governed by the Constitution. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav went further, calling Shah “mad” and demanding he resign from the cabinet and quit politics altogether.
Shah, however, maintains his innocence, asserting that he would never disrespect Ambedkar. He also indicated the BJP will explore legal options against those who misrepresented his speech. The incident has sparked a major political row, highlighting ongoing tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition.
