Tue Dec 17 10:30:09 UTC 2024: ## Zimbabwe Fined for Slow Over-Rate in T20I Series Loss to Afghanistan

**HARARE, ZIMBABWE –** Zimbabwe’s cricket team has been penalized 10 percent of their match fees for a slow over-rate during the third and final T20I against Afghanistan. The penalty was confirmed late Monday, following their narrow defeat which saw Afghanistan clinch the series 2-1.

Match Referee Andy Pycroft, a member of the ICC’s Elite Panel, imposed the sanction, which was accepted by Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza. The charges were brought by the on-field umpires Iknow Chabi, Forster Mutizwa, third umpire Percival Sizara, and fourth umpire Langton Rusere, under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This article stipulates a five percent fine for each over short of the allotted time.

The series finale was a low-scoring thriller. Zimbabwe, batting first, were bowled out for 127 in 19.5 overs despite a useful 31 from Brian Bennett. Afghanistan, despite a shaky start losing four wickets for 44 runs, eventually reached the target thanks to a composed innings from Mohammad Nabi (24*). Blessing Muzarabani, Trevor Gwandu, and Sikandar Raza each took two wickets for Zimbabwe.

Despite the penalty and series loss, both teams will now move on to a three-match ODI series beginning December 17th, followed by a two-match Test series commencing December 26th.
