Harare, Zimbabwe – A last-ball thriller at Harare Sports Club ended in heartbreak for Zimbabwe on Saturday as they lost the final T20I against Afghanistan by 3 wickets. Despite a valiant bowling performance defending a modest 127-run target, Zimbabwe were unable to secure their first-ever T20I series victory over Afghanistan.

Afghanistan, winning the toss and electing to bowl, dominated Zimbabwe’s innings. Rashid Khan led the charge with a stunning spell of 4 for 27, including a remarkable three-wicket over. Azmatullah Omarzai and Naveen-ul-Haq each contributed two wickets apiece, restricting Zimbabwe to 127 runs in 19.5 overs. Brian Bennett top-scored for Zimbabwe with 31 runs, but key batsmen Sikandar Raza and Dion Myers underperformed.

Afghanistan’s chase got off to a shaky start, with Zimbabwe’s fast bowlers controlling the powerplay. However, Omarzai’s 34 runs and an unbeaten 24 from Mohammad Nabi steered Afghanistan to victory with three balls to spare. Rashid Khan praised the crucial partnerships between Gulbadin and Omarzai, and then Omarzai and Nabi, highlighting their contribution to the win. He expressed confidence in Afghanistan’s chances in the upcoming ODI series.

Zimbabwe’s team included Brian Bennett, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Dion Myers, Wessly Madhevere, Sikandar Raza (captain), Tashinga Musekiwa, Wellington Masakadza, Faraz Akram, Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, and Trevor Gwandu.
