**Madurai, December 17, 2024** – Water levels in the Mullaperiyar dam are nearing maximum capacity, according to the latest readings. As of Tuesday, the dam’s water level stood at 130 feet, just 12 feet below the permissible maximum of 142 feet. Inflow registered at 1,908 cusecs, with a discharge of 1,400 cusecs. Meanwhile, the Vaigai dam’s water level reached 61.98 feet (out of a maximum of 71 feet), with an inflow of 2,779 cusecs and a discharge of only 69 cusecs. The combined storage in the Periyar system currently stands at 6,523.96 mcft.
