Tue Dec 17 08:36:31 UTC 2024: ## Supreme Court Rejects CLAT PG Answer Key Challenge, Sparks Debate on Exam Conduct

**NEW DELHI, December 17, 2024** – The Supreme Court’s dismissal of a petition challenging the accuracy of the provisional answer key for the 2025 postgraduate Common Law Admission Test (CLAT PG) has ignited a controversy surrounding the exam’s administration. The petition, filed by Anam Khan and Ayush Agarwal, alleged twelve incorrect answers in the key released on December 2nd.

While the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLUs), which organizes CLAT, released the final answer key and results on December 7th, ahead of the scheduled December 9th and 10th dates, the court refused to hear the case, citing concerns about delaying results and the petition’s maintainability. The court suggested the petitioners seek redress through the High Court.

Advocate Manasi Bhushan, representing the petitioners, argued that the errors persisted even in the final answer key and that the Supreme Court has previously granted relief in similar cases involving national-level exams. She highlighted the potential for conflicting judgments if the matter were handled by multiple High Courts.

Concerns were also raised about the undergraduate CLAT (CLAT UG) exam. Nishant Prakash, a CLAT mentor, claimed the UG exam also contained errors, with several questions needing correction. He argued that these errors negatively impacted students’ performance.

However, Prof. Dr. S Shanthakumar, Director of Gujarat National Law University and vice-president of the CNLUs Governing Body, defended the exam process, stating that differing interpretations of legal questions can lead to such discrepancies and that there was no delay in releasing the results. He emphasized that CNLUs takes “extreme care” to avoid mistakes. The debate continues regarding the fairness and efficacy of the CLAT exam process.
