**Pune, India** – The Southern Command of the Indian Army commemorated the 54th Vijay Diwas, celebrating India’s decisive victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, with a poignant wreath-laying ceremony at the Command War Memorial on December 16th. Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, army commander, Southern Command, led the tribute, laying a wreath to honor the fallen heroes. The ceremony included the participation of 1971 War veterans, serving officers, school children, NCC cadets, and dignitaries, reinforcing a spirit of remembrance and gratitude.
Vijay Diwas marks the day India achieved a resounding victory, resulting in the surrender of over 93,000 Pakistani troops and the creation of Bangladesh. This significant event is considered one of the most decisive military victories in modern history, liberating millions and solidifying India’s position on the global stage.
Adding to the day’s events, a 405-kilometer Vijay Diwas Ultra Marathon, organized across Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa, was flagged off at the Command War Memorial. Runners traversed Nashik, Ahilyanagar, and Kolhapur before finishing in Pune.
