Tue Dec 17 01:44:34 UTC 2024: ## Biden Condemns Wisconsin School Shooting, Renews Call for Gun Control

**Madison, WI** – President Joe Biden issued a strong condemnation following a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, calling the incident “shocking and unconscionable.” The shooting resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to at least six others. A 17-year-old female student, believed to be the shooter, was found dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The White House released a statement expressing grief for the victims’ families and highlighting the ongoing national crisis of gun violence. President Biden noted the tragic recurrence of school shootings across the country, citing previous incidents in Newtown, Uvalde, and Parkland, emphasizing the unacceptable toll on children and the need for stronger gun safety measures.

“From Newtown to Uvalde, Parkland to Madison, to so many other shootings that don’t receive attention – it is unacceptable that we are unable to protect our children from this scourge of gun violence,” the statement read. The President reiterated his call for Congress to pass comprehensive gun safety legislation, including universal background checks, a national red flag law, and a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

While acknowledging his administration’s efforts to combat gun violence, including passing the most significant gun safety legislation in nearly 30 years and taking extensive executive action, President Biden stressed that more is needed. He expressed gratitude to first responders and the FBI for their swift response and offered federal support to local authorities.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes confirmed the suspect was a student at the school, though authorities have declined to release further identifying information beyond confirming the suspect’s gender. At least seven individuals were transported to area hospitals following the incident, according to Fire Chief Chris Carbon. The investigation is ongoing.
