Tue Dec 17 08:20:47 UTC 2024: ## Indian Railways Eliminates 21 Level Crossings in Prayagraj Ahead of Maha Kumbh

**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, December 17, 2024** – In a major infrastructure upgrade costing ₹450 crore, Indian Railways has eliminated 21 level crossing gates in Prayagraj to improve traffic flow during the upcoming Maha Kumbh. The project, announced by North Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer Shashi Kant Tripathi, aims to alleviate congestion expected from the millions of pilgrims attending the religious event.

Fifteen of the 21 gates are already operational, with the remaining slated for completion by the end of December. The initiative is designed to ensure smoother movement for both road and rail traffic, particularly given the anticipated surge in crowds. Mr. Tripathi emphasized the need for this improvement, citing the heavy volume of train and road traffic during the Kumbh.

This railway infrastructure improvement complements other preparations for the Maha Kumbh. The Uttar Pradesh government has deployed 350 shuttle buses and established 24/7 helplines to facilitate smooth travel for visitors. A dedicated team of 22 officers will monitor the transport system’s efficiency, and Quick Response Teams have been deployed along seven key routes to Prayagraj to handle emergencies. The Maha Kumbh is scheduled to begin on January 13th, 2025.
