**Srinagar/Leh, December 16, 2024** – The Indian Army’s Northern Command commemorated Vijay Diwas on Monday, marking the 53rd anniversary of India’s decisive victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, which led to the creation of Bangladesh. Ceremonies were held across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, honoring the soldiers who fought in the conflict.

Lt. Gen. M V Suchindra Kumar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, led a wreath-laying ceremony at the Dhruva War Memorial, paying tribute to the fallen soldiers. He also interacted with veterans. Similar commemorations took place at the Balidan Stambh War Memorial in Jammu, where the Tiger Division held a ceremony remembering the sacrifices made during the 13-day war that concluded on December 16, 1971. The Deputy General Officer Commanding of the Tiger Division laid a wreath at the memorial’s Eternal Flame. The events served as a reminder of the Indian armed forces’ swift and decisive victory against Pakistan.
