**Aizawl, December 16, 2024** – Mizoram joined the nation today in observing Vijay Diwas, commemorating India’s victory in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War. A solemn ceremony was held this morning at 8:00 AM at the War Memorial in Treasury Square, Aizawl.

Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati led the tributes, laying a wreath to honor the soldiers who perished in the conflict. He was followed by a host of dignitaries including Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga, and representatives from the military and veteran organizations.

The ceremony marked the 53rd anniversary of the surrender of 93,000 Pakistani troops to Allied Forces under Lt. Gen. Jagjit Singh Aurora at Dhaka’s Ramna Race Course (now Suhrawardy Udyan) on December 16, 1971. This decisive victory led to the creation of the independent nation of Bangladesh. Vijay Diwas is observed annually on this date to remember the sacrifices made during the war.
