Tue Dec 17 13:53:17 UTC 2024: ## Carbon Monoxide Claims 11 Indian Lives at Georgian Ski Resort

**Gudauri, Georgia –** Eleven Indian nationals, including a man celebrating his birthday and a married couple, perished in a tragic incident at a Gudauri ski resort over the weekend. Georgian authorities believe carbon monoxide poisoning from a malfunctioning generator is the cause of death. One Georgian national also died in the incident.

The victims were found deceased above an Indian restaurant. Initial investigations by the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs revealed no signs of violence or foul play. It is suspected that a generator, used after a power outage, released lethal levels of carbon monoxide into the building’s sleeping quarters. Authorities are investigating potential charges of negligent manslaughter.

Among the deceased were Sameer Kumar, who had recently moved to Georgia for work and was celebrating his birthday, and the married couple, Ravinder Singh and Gurvinder Kaur, who had travelled to Georgia seeking better opportunities. Families in Punjab, India, are mourning their loss and urging their governments to expedite the repatriation of the bodies.

The incident highlights the dangers of carbon monoxide, an odourless gas produced by incomplete combustion of fossil fuels. Gudauri, a popular ski resort located in the Caucasus mountains, is currently under scrutiny following this devastating event. The Indian government is assisting the families of the victims and working to return the bodies to India.
